Dirty Three: "Rising Below"

As we already reported, Australian post-rock mavens Dirty Three  finally return Feb. 28 with Toward the Low Sun. The full-length is the band's debut for Drag City, and their first record since Cinder dropped seven years ago through Touch & Go. In the interim, bandmembers Jim White, Warren Ellis, and Mick Turner have played with Nick Cave, Cat Power, PJ Harvey, Bill Callahan, Bonnie "Prince" Billy and others.

Today we have a choice preview track on tap. It's a six-minute cut entitled "Rising Below." Stream it via Drag City.

The tune begins within a jazz-inflected cloud and slowly morphs into a beautiful folk din accented by heartfelt strings. Dirty Three have tread this ground before and go about their business with ease and grace. Nicely done.

The band will also appear at ATP's "I'll Be Your Mirror" U.K. festival in May.
