Jimmy Kimmel may not be one of the giants of the late night TV talk show circuit, but he’s certainly stepped up his game when it comes to booking decent bands in the past year or so. Perhaps his bookers have been taking tips from Jimmy Fallon’s show? Regardless, Kimmel had Devo on last night (April 20), who performed on the large outdoor stage in Los Angeles.
There’s a new Devo album out in June, and they performed “Fresh” from it, which roughly fits into the band’s lexicon of wiry guitar lines and chant-a-long vocals. But does anyone really want to hear new Devo material? If not, the band obliged by donning their classic hats and outfits to do a version of “Whip It” (below). There’s even a dude in the front row in a yellow Devo boiler suit who is clearly way too old to be doing stuff like this.
