You never really know what to expect when Destroyer announce a new album. Will it be singer-songwriter esque? Sprawling and experimental? You never know until the album comes out. But judging by "Chinatown," the buttery smooth lead single from the band's upcoming Kaputt, the album is going to be all soft-rock in the Changes-era David Bowie sense of the genre. This is probably the best Hall and Oates song Hall and Oates never wrote. It's good though, at least on a few passes. We'll see if the rest of the album is like this when it's released on Jan. 25 via Merge. Hit up Pitchfork to hear it.
