Destroyer: "Archer On The Beach"
In celebration of the release of Destroyer's Archer On The Beach 12", the band has gone ahead and made the title track available for listening on the internet. As reported before, the song is a collaboration between Dan Bejar and Kranky recording artist Tim Hecker, in that Hecker is responsible for nearly all of the music you hear, and Bejar wrote the general chord progression and the lyrics. What they've created is a chilly soundscape, marked by plodding piano, the sounds of a cheering crowd, ocassional blasts of thunder, and some other unidentifiable sounds. It all moves at a glacial pace, while Bejar slowly unravels his usual hyper-literate lyrics. Give it a listen over at Stereogum, where the lyrics can also be read.
