Deftones have always had great taste in cover songs. Their 2005 B-sides collection featured the Sacramento quintet's reverent takes on classics by Jawbox, Cocteau Twins, and the Smiths, just to name a few.
Their new album, the alternately soaring and brutal Diamond Eyes came out today, and the iTunes edition of the album contains a few extra goodies, notably a cover of San Diego legends Drive Like Jehu's "Caress," which appears on that band's self-titled album. The 'Tones stay pretty faithful to the original, but manage to add some of their characteristic heaviness without sacrificing the spastic violence of the source material. Another great entry by a band who loves to show others the bands they adore.
Deftones = truth.
nice DLJ cover
