Deerhunter

Recording Microcastle (Pitchfork.tv) (video)

The anti-Bradford Cox brigade may want to switch off their computers this week. It’s only Tuesday, and already we’ve had two new Atlas Sound songs, Deerhunter’s Microcastle, and now an exclusive look at the recording of the album on Pitchfork.tv. Microcastle was recorded at the Rare Book Room in Brooklyn, and the group brought Pitchfork along to document the experience.

In this first clip from the session they chain-smoke, talk about recording with producer Nicholas Vernhes (who owns Rare Book Room), and explain how the finished versions of the songs came to life. We get to see how Microcastle highlights such as “Calvary Scars” and “Nothing Ever Happened” are bashed into shape, and Cox explains how they want to make songs for “a kid who is just now getting over My Chemical Romance.”
