David Letterman threw Providence, Rhode Island, rockers Deer Tick a bone last night (June 16) by providing them with their network television debut. The band’s new album is titled Black Dirt Sessions, which offers a further demonstration of John McCauley’s old-beyond-his-years songwriting chops.
“Baltimore Blues No. 1” is a mid-paced rock song that allows McCauley plenty of space to unleash his gravely vocals and guitar pyrotechnics. It’s resolutely unoriginal but pleasant enough for anyone longing for a contemporary meeting place for the ideas of Van Morrison, the Band and Crazy Horse.
Great performance. Love the new record along with all the old. Deer Tick is it!
