David Lynch: "Shoot the Works" (Audio)

This brooding ballad is meant to capture the “’50s feel of innocence and pain mingling,” Lynch told Entertainment Weekly. From the upcoming album Fox Bat Strategy: A Tribute to Dave Juarequi, the song features Lynch’s lyrics and the vocals and guitar of Dave Juarequi. The lyrics are more spoken than sung, and the resulting vocals are unsettling in their edge and persistence. They sound the way characters in Lynch’s movies look—making too much eye contact, looking ahead too directly. It’s normal gone askew, and captivating because of its oddity. It’s David Lynch.
