While plenty of the tracks on Nas and Damian Marley's Distant Relatives dealt with political and social issues, there were still a few bangers in the bunch. And leading the way was their first single, "As We Enter," one of my personal favorite tracks of last year. "Nah Mean" came close to gaining the same acclaim as it also features the duo flexing a straightforward hip-hop approach. With a squealing sample behind them, Nas and Jr. Gong still trade empowering, socially relevant bars. But they're not so much forced down your throat as their flows are urgent and the beat is monstrous.
Distant Relatives is out now.
