Damian Marley and Stephen Marley

The Mission (Video)

Average Rating: 10.00

Considering their pops’ strong social conscious, it’s no surprise that his kids (Damian and Stephen in this case) share Bob’s indignation at the social inequality in their home country of Jamaica. The video for the epic sounding, dance-hall burner “The Mission” draws strong parallels between the strife in Somalia and Ethiopia to the lack of opportunity that will only lead to a similar situation in Jamaica. No subject in Jamaica is left untouched: the problems of the church, lack of education, and the easy availability of guns, and the need for unity.

The song’s been around for a while but it’s being re-released on VP’s Reggae Gold 2008. The song’s beat, produced by Trevor “Baby G” James, was also used on Mavado ft. Jay-Z’s “I’m On the Rock.” [Pitchfork]

This is a revolutionary song for all my rastafari brothers in jamaica and my own path in this caged world. I salute the Marleys for their gift to unite cultures and ages.
