The Human League are one of the greatest synth-pop bands of all time, so performing a cover of one of their songs is a daunting task. But Dam-Funk seems to have no such qualms on his version of the group’s “The Things That Dreams Are Made Of,” which originally appeared on the classic Dare album.
The song has been recorded for Dr. Martens as part of their 50th birthday celebrations—although this video for the cover is thankfully clear of any product placement. Instead, it fits neatly into Dam-Funk’s fascination with ‘80s funk and synth sounds, with plenty of tacky visuals and poorly blue-screened effects harking back to the era that continues to enthrall him.
To compare and contrast, here's the original version of the song:
This is a pretty straight cover. I dig the Human League so I find this enjoyable but I really don't get Dam-Funk whatsoever.
