Antony & the Johnsons will release their fifth album tomorrow, titled Cut The World. It’s something of a departure for the band as it was recorded live with a symphony, but that fits perfecty with the group’s inherently grand-yet-somber sound.
The album’s title track showcases Antony Hegarty’s gifts as both a composer and singer, his operatic voice rising above the suspended strings. The group also has an accompanying video for the song that features Willem Defoe, Marina Abramovic, and Carice van Houten. It’s a fairly meditative clip, but that’s before knives are drawn and blood is spilled. Viewer discretion is advised.
