Tim Kasher, principal songwriter for Cursive, recently dropped by SPIN's offices in New York to perform three songs from his group's latest record, Mama, I'm Swollen. The fellow in the red cap drinking the Pabst Blue Ribbon is Patrick Newbery, the trumpet extroadinaire featured on the album, who adds his talents to "What Have I Done?," while Kasher provides the standard Unplugged contextual storytelling before the performances. The real revelation here, however, is just how much Kasher channels Jeff Tweedy's awkward, dissafected Summerteeth honesty in this setting. I thought I had Cursive's sound pegged down as holding a more glittery, twisted core, but as it always seems to be, the simplicity works. [Cursive Unplugged">Spin]
