Crystal Stilts

Shattered Shine (MP3)

Average Rating: 8.50
If you live in Brooklyn it’s pretty much impossible to avoid the Crystal Stilts. The band seems to play on a weekly basis, using the borough’s loft venues and warehouse spaces to merge obscure Flying Nun influences, ‘60s garage-pop, and the Jim Reid-like presence of vocalist Brad Hargett. Brooklynites shouldn’t complain: Crystal Stilts are one of the best upcoming rock bands in the city, and it’s likely they’ll escape these dank confines in the very near future.

The first Crystal Stilts album, Alight of Night, is released on October 28, and it’s one of the most assured debuts I’ve heard in a long time. The band heads out on tour in October and November, and has released a new version of old single “Shattered Shine” as a teaser for the full-length record. New Yorkers have plenty more chances to see the band on their forthcoming string of shows, which include numerous CMJ appearances, but they're also hitting the west coast with indie-pop obsessives Cause Co-Motion!
