“Celestica” is Crystal Castles demonstrating their ability to shave off their spiky edges in order to operate as a pure pop band. The overall sound of current album Crystal Castles often edges closer to the abrasiveness of their debut album, but if Ethan Kath and Alice Glass are attempting to edge toward mainstream acceptance, this is the kind of track that’s going to do it for them.
This video clip is the perfect tool to make them appeal to tortured, lonely teens stuck in their bedrooms and looking for someone who really “gets” them. Not only does Glass dress in goth regalia, but the clip is mostly shot in a graveyard, and packs in several thousand shots of the singer staring wistfully off into the distance. Come in Robert Smith, your time is (finally) up.
