Crystal Castles’ famously combative live performances might not be well suited to the stuffy confines of a TV studio, but the band turned up to Jools Holland’s show last night (May 25) to hammer out this version of the tranquil “Celestica” from its second album, Crystal Castles.
Alice Glass looks a little lost without an audience to feed off, and at one point she even breaks out of the tight confine the band are performing in and seems to be seeking out a non-existent crowd. Old habits clearly die hard—it’s just a shame we didn’t see her let loose on the berzerker riff of “Doe Deer.”
This was a good choice for them. Glass is still engaging, live audience nearby or no.
