Conor Oberst brought his Mystic Valley band onto Conan on Tuesday, and instead of performing a track off of his eponymous album, they did a new track called “Nicorette.” As far as I can tell, the song isn’t about quitting smoking via chewing gum—it’s another “I am a troubadour, and I sing about the dust bowl and drinking, and god” song from Oberst. The Mystic Valley Band all dress like they’re in different bands (the bass player is from Nirvana, the drummer is from the Velvet Underground, the keyboardist and one of the rhythm guitarists are from either a dapper Emo band or a big band) but they all seem to be having a pretty good time—they meander around the stage and stomp their feet a whole lot.
Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band are currently in the process of wrapping up their U.S. tour, and play tonight in Asheville, N.C. [Stereogum]
