Conor Oberst’s self-titled solo album isn’t out until 8/5, but thanks to those MP3’s from a weeks ago, and these two new videos of Oberst and his band (who go by Mystic Valley Band) playing three new tracks in Sao Paulo, we can digest nearly half of the album.
All three of the new tracks (the rocking “Get-Well-Cards,” “Eagle on a Pole,” and “Falling Out of Love”) follow the same roots-rock template as the other tracks from the album, and ultimately don’t sound that different from Oberst’s work with Bright Eyes (a lot of yelling, acoustic guitar, organ, etc.). So it’s kind of curious why he decided to drop that name and use his own.
Conor Oberst is out 8/5 via Merge. [Stereogum]
Falling Out of Love is an OLDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD song
