“Come Talk to Me” (Peter Gabriel Cover)

On Bon Iver’s excellent self-titled sophomore LP, there are certainly a few unabashed 80s influences, particularly closing track “Beth/Rest.” It makes sense then, that the B-side to the second Bon Iver single “Holocene,” will be a track from Genesis frontman Peter Gabriel: the first track on 1992’s Up LP, “Come Talk to Me.” Justin Vernon’s take on the Peter Gabriel track has been floating around as a limited edition Record Store Day release since last year, after Gabriel covered the Bon Iver track “Flume” for his covers album Scratch My Back. This earlier version of the Gabriel cover certainly fits the spirit of Bon Iver, with the extra warmth and lushness of that record filtering through. Listen below, and you can grab the “Holocene” single come Sep. 9 via 4AD. [Stereogum]
