Despair tastes absolutely scrumptious when it's served up by Finnish funeral doom metal morticians Colosseum. Tough as it is to imagine a doom album more bombastic than their excellent Chapter 1: Delirium (2007), this sample track from Colosseum's forthcoming album Chapter 2: Numquam achieves that feat, with strings feebly sobbing in the background as the rest of the band waits for the reaper in slow motion soul-crush fashion. Best of all, the rest of the new album is gonna be even huger than "Towards the Infinite" -- the band promises trumpet arrangements on its website, and describes Numquam as "really megalomanic stuff." In the good way! Expect the album to emerge from its cave on January 14th, 2009 from Firedoom Music.
