Cold Specks: "Holland" (Video)
Last year the Canadian band Cold Specks featured in the Guardian’s long running New Band of the Day feature, which was the first sign that the soulful vocals of Al Spx were about to reach a wider audience. Now the band (which is mostly just a solo outlet for Spx) has announced a deal with Mute, who will release the debut album I Predict a Graceful Explosion on May 21. Cold Specks has celebrated this news by putting out an official video for the song “Holland,” which is all slow moving musical shapes bolstered by Spx’s startling vocal. Long term PJ Harvey sideman Rob Ellis worked with Spx on this track, demonstrating her impeccable taste in collaborators. Check out “Holland” below.
