Questlove already gave us a taste of what to expect from Clipse’s performance on Jimmy Fallon’s show last night (Jan. 6). As predicted by Prefix’s Andrew Martin, the Thornton brothers performed “Popular Demand (Popeyes)” from Til the Casket Drops, with backup provided by the Roots.
The album—which may bear the worst cover art of all time—has received a mixed response, although “Popular Demand” is one of the better tracks. Cam’ron is absent from this performance of the song, but Black Thought comes in as a replacement, and Fallon still seems awfully stiff and awkward when he steps in to close the show at the end.
Damn, Black Thought spits lava on this. I love the Roots, but I think the beat lacked the muscle of the original.
Kinda have to agree about the beat being a little too soft, even if the Roots did a fine job reinterpreting it. And yeah, BT's verse is great.
