Like other acts have done before them, the Clipse did an exclusive online performance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon of what is arguably their biggest track ever, "Grindin'." We posted a video of their rehearsal of the track yesterday as Pusha T and Malice spit backstage with the Roots' Frankie Knuckles and Kamal assisting on the beat. When they actually took the stage, though, the Clipse tackled "Popular Demand (Popeyes)," one of Til The Casket Drops' better cuts.
That was, of course, until the above clip appeared on Fallon's NBC website. The performance, which is spot-on, is enhanced by a Black Thought verse, which sounds familiar but is fantastic either way. He also dropped some bars during the performance of "Popular Demand." And you can't help but hope that Black Thought's assistance on all these Late Night performances will have him appearing on other rappers' albums. If you have noticed over the years, he rarely makes guest appearances, especially when compared to other MCs who seem like they need to be on every album.
The Roots are a reason to watch (that horrendously unfunny) dude's show every night...
Things like "Grinding ft. the Roots" or "Catalina f. the Roots" used to only be privy to a few lucky concert goers in cities like NYC and Philly; that ish being on international TV is tremendous.
Yea, pretty much, haha.
