“Climax” (Keys N Krates Remix)

When Usher dropped the Diplo-produced “Climax” a little over two weeks ago, how did you feel? Did you feel it wasn’t climactic enough, or that its own climax fizzled out too quickly? No, you didn’t, because that track brought us back to Usher circa 2004 and gave us hope for the man’s future after Raymond v. Raymond.

Anyway, whether or not you think it’s necessary, Toronto trio Keys N Krates give “Climax” a respectable rework here. And, while they bend Usher’s voice into sounding like a soul sample–thus making the new version more instrumentally (rather than vocally) focused–it remains a killer song. Keys N Krates’ climax is altogether different from Diplo’s, mostly because they take the all-consuming synth route on the chorus. Not a bad decision, but something ought to be said of Diplo’s original bare backdrop. Listen to and download Krates’ new take below.
