Everything seemed set to go so right for Christina Aguilera’s Bionic, but oh how quickly it all come crashing down around her ears. Hiring Le Tigre, Ladytron and Linda Perry wasn’t quite enough to salvage the album from a critical mauling, and now Aguilera has canceled a tour to promote the record, citing an acting commitment to the new movie Burlesque.
That didn’t stop her from appearing on David Letterman’s show last night (June 9) to promote Bionic, where she donned a Marilyn Monroe-esque look to to perform the tender “You Lost Me.” Aguilera’s still got a powerful voice, but if you stack this up against past hits like “Genie in a Bottle” and “Dirrty,” there’s clearly something missing. Perhaps the “too many cooks” adage held true on Bionic?
