Shafiq Husayn, of the Sa-Ra Creative Partners, dropped what was one of 2009’s best R&B/soul records. His album, Shafiq En’ A-Free-Ka, is a sprawling amalgam of chugging dub, stuttering Afro-beat, psychedelic tendencies, and woozy melodies. And it’s best represented by tracks like “Cheeba,” which features Bilal’s smoky vocals and a hypnotic beat. It also lends itself to the creation of some wild videos, one of which you can view above. The visuals don’t just incorporate “Cheeba,” though. The video actually combines several elements from Shafiq En’ A-Free-Ka that tell a hazy, drugged-up story straight out of the ’70s.
