We got word of his "comeback" two weeks ago. Now it's official. "Charles Hamilton Is Back," indeed. And, to my surprise at least, he sounds like he might still have "it" -- "it" being what made Interscope sign him and so many hip-hop heads interested in his music. There are flashes of brilliance on this track, even if the beat's woozy synthesizers and bombast hook are a little much. Chuck spits some nice, clever bars, too, particularly a few gross ones referring to his favorite color (pink). But what's most important is he sounds hungry and hopefully willing to learn from his numerous mistakes. "Charles Hamilton Is Back" is off Normalcy, which drops (probably for free on blogs everywhere) Dec. 9.
