“Champion Sound”

In case you’ve taken residence under a giant rock (a metaphorical one, of course) for the past year or so, you’ll be aware that New York City is experiencing somewhat of a rap renaissance right about now. With underground successes-turned-major label recruits (A$AP Rocky, Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire), nostalgic rhymers (Joey Bada$$, Children of the Night) and acts that tick the “weird and wonderful” box (Das Racist, Flatbush Zombies) springing from every borough, it seems, somewhere amidst the mess stands Bryant Dope.

The 19-year-old Queens up-and-comer is currently prepping his New New York mixtape—the follow up to March’s Queens Kids—and for the first sample, spits over a Smif-n-Wessun sample, as flipped by beatsmith Hannibal King, for the thumping “Champion Sound.” New New York is due out this Fall.
