Here's a pretty brilliant move by the marketing team behind perpetually sad rapper Cage: Release a new video for a track from last year's Depart From Me to capitalize on the fact he's sure to gain some new fans following his appearance on Kid Cudi's Man on the Moon II: Legend of Mr. Rager. I mean, sure, his team would have to be pretty damn stupid to not jump on this, especially after Cage joined Cudi and Annie Clark, aka St. Vincent, to perform "Maniac" on Jimmy Fallon recently.
But here Cage remains on his drunken/confused state for "Captain Bumout," a pseudo-rock track sure to catch on with Cudi's fan base. It's not going to do much for Cage's followers who jumped ship when Depart From Me dropped. But hey, they might be inspired by the insanely fresh visuals here shot by Stephen Reedy, who works for J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot company.
Depart From Me is out now.
