Busta Rhymes

"Give Em What They Asking For/Hustler's Anthem" and "Respect My Conglomerate" (Live on Kimmel) (Video)

Remember when Busta Rhymes used to be a satellite member of Native Tongues, a conglomerate of rap groups that were the antithesis to the money-obsessed rappers of the late 1990s? Neither does Busta; he's been spending the last few years trying to catch up with the Lloyd Bankses, the Ma$es, and the Papooses of the world, dropping enough songs about how he's the richest rapper to ever don a gold necklace to make Rick Ross blush.

He's still working hard at that endeavor, releasing Back on My B.S. this week, an album that features tracks like "The Hustler's Anthem" and "Respect My Conglomerate," both of which he performed on Kimmel last night. Busta's still entertaining enough, but these songs smack of him desperately trying to go for street credibility, when it used to be enough that he had a loyal fan base who hung on all his rapidly spat syllables. Almost makes you feel guilty for liking any of his earlier work.
