A sure sign that M.I.A.’s “Paper Planes” has exploded far beyond the stratosphere into this year’s uber-hit: Built To Spill covered the Pineapple Express trailer bait while in Rome this weekend. Apparently, that old “when in Rome” adage means you should cover M.I.A.

The best part is that Built to Spill’s version is pretty awesome—Doug Martsch and company seem to be having a genuine blast doing the track. They even do the random sound effects from the original, but with guitars and voices. [Stereogum]
