Bryan Ferry: "You Can Dance" (Live On Letterman) (Video)

· by

These are unusual times for Bryan Ferry. The Roxy Music reunion has (so far) failed to yield any new music, so he’s taken some of the tracks the reunited band worked on and turned them into his current solo album, Olympia. The lavish production, with a glossy Kate Moss cover shot, is distinctly at odds with the times, and Ferry has reportedly had a hard time shifting copies of it in his native U.K. But it’s not a bad record at all, as this version of “You Can Dance” performed on David Letterman’s show last night (Feb. 10) demonstrates. Ferry is simply a man out of time, who is used to the finer things in life, but operating in an industry perilously short of cash at present. He’s in great voice here, he’s still one of the slickest performers you’ll ever see on stage, and he remains committed to the high glamour aesthetic he set in motion way back in the early 1970s. This is, perhaps surprisingly, wonderful stuff.
