The favorite singer of people who have never heard a decent Motown compilation, Bruno Mars had the unenviable task of following up Kanye West's masterful performances on SNL last week this weekend. He countered by upping the formalism of his performance, playing with a full band, and crooning like the blandest Rat Pack member (which makes him the new Paul Anka, I guess, in this analogy?). I guess it says a lot that no one is talking about this performance this morning; I have yet to see a recap of the episode that even mentions Mars; all the interest was on Jane Lynch, who did all right, I hear. I guess it's a credit to Mars that he got on the show though; like six months ago he was a nobody, and now you can't have a hit single in America without having him sing the hook. He even made Travie McCoy a successful solo artist. Which makes Mars one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse, pretty much.
