Bruce Springsteen: Interview (Live on the Daily Show) (Video)

A few years ago, I went to see Arthur Lee play a show at New York’s Bowery Ballroom. Mid way through the set of classic Love songs, he asked the following question:

Lee: “Do any of you guys like Bruce Springsteen?”

Naturally, this being New York, the audience responded with uproarious cheering, whooping and a firm indication that yes, they were quite keen on this guy sometimes referred to as “The Boss.”

Lee: “Well he can suck my DICK!”

At this point, the audience went so quiet that you could hear a pin drop. I’m not sure what Lee’s beef with Springsteen was, but the Boss sparked the opposite reaction from Jon Stewart on the Daily Show last night (March 19).

Stewart was gushing over Springsteen, even citing him as a personal inspiration, causing the singer to look more than a little embarrassed. He also performed the title track of his recent Working on a Dream album, and the Daily Show audience regularly broke out into “Bruuuuuce” chants. Arthur Lee must have been turning in his grave.
