It’s been a busy week for Broken Bells. Yesterday we brought you a clip of the band performing in the unlikely surroundings of Ellen Degeneres’s studio, and today comes two songs in the more familiar setting of the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles, which were recorded for Carson Daly’s show.
“Vaporize” is all organ-led melancholia, with James Mercer getting his falsetto on, while “The Mall and Misery” brings the show to a close with heavy tremeloed guitar lines and a Sea and Cake-like cleanliness. It’s just too bad that Carson Daly hasn’t (yet) released more of this footage online, in a similar manner to David Letterman’s full-show recordings.
