British Sea Power: Valhalla Dancehall (Stream)

Not content to sit in the indie rock pocket, British Sea Power promised a diversified spread on its fifth album Valhalla Dancehall. Now you can check whether the proof can be heard in the band's blood pudding. The album, which is slated for a January 11, 2011 release, can be streamed in advance at the Guardian web site.

Regarding this record, the band spoke of making musical nods to "Lee 'Scratch' Perry, Kraftwerk, and Serge Gainsbourg," as well as drawing influences from "vintage Playboy magazines, population control, crazy golf, Dadaist artist Kurt Schwitters, hedonism, nature and 'French Hitchcock' Henri-Georges Clouzot."

Listening now, the album comes out the gate with a familiar blast of power pop. There are some cabaret affects on "Georgie Ray" and equipment noodling on "Mongk II." But what do you think?
