Robert J. Flaherty’s Man of Aran is a documentary from 1934 that takes a look at life on the Aran Islands, which are located off the west coast of Ireland. British Sea Power are Flaherty fans, and have composed a soundtrack for the film, which has just been released as a CD/DVD package on Rough Trade.
“Come Wander With Me” is one of the most haunting tracks the band has composed to date, with some heavily tremoloed guitar providing a perfect counterpoint to hushed stings and deep-throated vocals. Far from being an act of rock star folly, the song provides a suitable juxtaposition to the film’s imagery, making it hard to imagine how the music would work without the accompanying visuals.
