Brian Wilson: Lucky Old Sun (Live on Black Cab Sessions)

Brian Wilson’s new album, Lucky Old Sun, is reportedly his return to ‘60s form after getting the Smile gorilla off his back, and that notion is hard to debate with the harmonious swirls that envelop most of the album’s tracks.

Wilson recently did some appearances in England, and while there he filmed this Black Cab Session, where he and four bandmates do the album’s title track mostly a capella (one band member has a small keyboard). When the band finish the song,  they still have three minutes left on their cab ride, so they launch in to “California Girls.”

Hey I found this on the Light In The Attic website:

http://www.lightintheattic.net/releases/sjk

Unreleased production by Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys. I guess this Stephen John Kalinich guy was some weird spoken-word/folk cat that ended up befriending The Beach Boys (and seemingly writing some lyrics for their albums) and recording this album in Brian Wilson's bathroom in 1969. I guess this is the first time it's ever been released.

It's pretty weird, but a sure bet for Beach Boys/Brian Wilson completists.

To me, Lucky Old Sun goes a little too far down the mellowed-out, over-sweetened path Wilson already began with
