Brian Eno: "Emerald And Stone" (Streaming)

We are slowly getting to hear a number of tracks from Brian Eno’s Small Craft On a Milk Sea ahead of its November release on Warp. Last week’s “Horse” was a fine piece of doom laden glitchy electronica, and now comes “Emerald and Stone,” which is reminiscent of Eno’s ambient works and the standout piano ballad “This River” from his 1977 album Before and After Science.

So, judging from what we have so far, it looks like Small Craft On a Milk Sea is going to be a career-hopping mesh of disparate directions from Eno, although whether “Emerald and Stone” is indicative of its stylistic thrust is difficult to say. The tracks leaked so far certainly make it difficult to guess how the album is going to pan out, but it’s likely that Eno will be delighted at his continued ability to confound expectations.
