Boxcutter: "Passerby" (Video)

Irish electronic musician Barry Lynn, better known as Boxcutter, has lifted a track from his recent The Dissolve album and given it an official music video. Lynn’s music is all over the map, and has been categorized as dubstep, 2-step, IDM, and plenty of other genres. This track shows why there’s such confusion, with the Boxcutter sound mostly resting in a place that’s uniquely its own, while some ‘80s VHS ephemera scrolls across the screen. It’s getting a little tiring seeing yet another clip sourced from such material, but it works pretty well with the lightly hypnotic sounds of “Passerby.” Let’s just hope musicians find another decade to plunder in the not-too distant future.
