Blonde Redhead have traveled pretty far from their origins in the art punk scene in New York, and their latest incarnation hasn’t found favor with everyone. Essentially they’ve reinvented themselves as a low key guitar infused pop band, with latest album Penny Sparkle being a slow moving beast full of hushed balladry that takes a lot of adjusting to for anyone familiar with the group's prior sound.
This track, titled “Not Getting There,” isn’t far removed from their labelmates Lush circa their swansong Lovelife album, with singer Kazu Makino hitting the high notes throughout. It’s not indicative of the somnambulant direction of Penny Sparkle, but makes for a decent gateway between the band’s old and new sound.
