Black Mountain

Wucan (Video)

Average Rating: 7.50

While the proper drug of choice for Black Mountain is and always has been weed, "Wucan" sees the band begin to experiment with an L.S.D.-inspired sound a little more. Combining '60s psychadelic keyboards with 80s new wave synths shows that the trip never really ended, and all 6 minutes of song are inflicted with weird, tribal vibes.

The new video for "Wucan" sees the trip take an Easy Rider-esque montage form, which is certainly well executed even if it isn't all that original. Black Mountain, one of Jagjaguwar's brightest stars, will continue to shine after launching a North American tour with the following dates:

08.22.08 San Francisco, CA: Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival
08.29.08 Victoria, BC: The Royal Theatre
09.01.08 Vancouver, BC: The Stanley Park Singing Exhibition
09.19.08 Urbana, IL: Canopy Club: Pygmalion Music Festival
09.20.08 Chicago, IL: Hideout Block Party
09.21.08 Pontiac, MI: The Pike Room at The Crofoot
09.23.08 New York, NY: Bowery Ballroom
09.24.08 Brooklyn, NY: Music Hall of Williamsburg
09.26.08 Montreal, QC: Le National
09.27.08 Toronto, ON: The Opera House

Jessie Sykes & The Sweet Hereafter will be joing Black Mountain from Pontiac thereafter. The band also has a date at the Golania Noise Festival in Brazil lined up in November, whereupon In the Future should begin to get mentioned on multiple year-end best-of lists.

I especially love the old footage integrated with the desert landscape stuff. These dudes (and lady) rock.
