Black Moth Super Rainbow hired Flaming Lips producer Dave Fridmann to produce their fourth album, Eating Us, and it's already apparent that Fridmann has used his typical production techniques on the band's album; he maxes out the volume, makes the drums sound enormous, and piles on layers of synths. First track "Born on a Day the Sun Didn't Rise" mixes Fridmann's techniques with Super Rainbow's established tics like vocoder and sprawling spacey instrumentation, which is more than you can say about some of Fridmann's past production work (he lobbed off all of Tapes n' Tapes edges on their sophomore album, Walk It Off).
Eating Us is due out on May 26 via Graveface. [Stereogum]
