Black Milk, Rapper Big Pooh: 'The Purple Tape' (Mixtape)

A few years ago, Detroit MC/producer Black Milk dropped a free "beat tape" of instrumentals crafted using Prince samples. Like most of Black Milk's work, it was a fresh project from one of the underground's finest producers. As such, you can't blame Rapper Big Pooh, of Little Brother, for picking these beats to spit over on The Purple Tape, with Black Milk's permission, of course.

If early highlight "Impatient" is any indication, this is a mixtape worth downloading if only because you didn't hear the beats the first time around. Big Pooh sounds hungry on here, too, and that's a nice surprise considering last year's The Delightful Bars was unbalanced and disappointing. But this is an MC who has shown flashes of brilliance, whether on his own or as part of Little Brother. He's just never done it consistently.

You can stream and download The Purple Tape here.
