Black Eyed Peas' latest E.N.D. single is "Meet Me Halfway," a ballad that could serve as a message to non-fans who complain about the Peas' lack of talent (boom!). That said, this is way less offensive than their downright abysmal "Boom Boom Pow," but it kind of sounds like it was written with the end of a Jerry Bruckheimer production in mind. Michael Bay is already on the phone to have this close Transformers 2: The Reckoning, and it's not even out yet. I'm more impressed that the Peas were able to go an entire song without repeating some nonsensical hook a billion times. Really impressed. To stream the track, go here.
The E.N.D. is due out on June 9. [via Idolator]
where's the repeating nonsensical hook???
Lulz. It got retarded and boom boom powed out of the song.
If you're going to be jealous of the Black Eyed Peas, you don't have to rant on them...

Sounds so freakin familiar, like an old eighties song, someone help me out. I can't be the only one.
Jayemar
It totally sounds like an 80s song I can't place. It was a great song. I would really like to know what this song is. I remember really enjoying it. And I'm trying to find it. When I came across the post.
Brendon
fergie said her hook was inspired by "borderline" by madonna. That could be the 80's song you are thinking of.
joey fofo
is the sample that everyone is dreaming of from the baz luman movie "STRICTLY BALLROOM"???? 'time after time' maybe???.... it is somewhere in the movie... enjoy!
that 80's song
not sure if this helps, but it reminds me of "tell it to my heart" by taylor dayne, circa 1980s.
bep
I'm pretty sure the song you're thinking of is "Time after Time" it's a guitar melody between the first chorus and second verse.
Gandy
I too am trying to figure out what the melodic hook is, but I'd like to add that they use a sample of Yeah Yeah Yeah's guitar from "Maps".
asenath7766
fergie is trying to make her voice sound like madonna
and they're totally ripping off music from the killers "when you were young" + yeah yeah yeah's "maps"
i mean, if you're not gonna be original at least give credit to those who deserve it.
femmemechanics
Yes it (the chorus) sounds like an 80's song! A man sings it, he sounds sad in it! Please help cos Im goin nuts trying to remember!!
Laura
Rick Astley
Juanita
OMG i cant believe im not the only one that noticed this, its fergies bit, sounds like something oldschool its on the tip of my tounge but i just cant place it, i dont think ts any of the songs you have said! but i do like the song! and the video!
Poppy
i know exactly what you guys mean. i've searched all over the web for information on it, but it seems no one can quite remember where fergie's part's from.
hhp018
The part in the chorus when Fergie says "i'll be lookin out night n'day" the night n'day bit sounds like the "yeah yeah" in an old 90's maybe 80's song that I grew up with. More likely to be 90's! but I can't place my finger on it. It was probably an old disco type song! It's been bugging me for days!
harmony
totally sounds like an 80's song! ive been thinking that too...wonder who she is trying to recreate?
missy
It's Tell it To My Heart!!! Shamelessly stolen from Taylor Dayne
rolocolo
I keep thinking it is similar to a New Order song?
Mary
It's not an 80s song. I know what all of you mean. I would hear the song from my shower radio and it would KILL ME trying to figure out why that hook is so familiar! I got it though!... It's COLDPLAY!!! It's from Viva La Vida by Coldplay. If you have the CD, somewhere around the 3:00 mark of Viva La Vida you'll hear why it sounds so familiar.
Gloria
it does sound like tell it to my heart and it does sound like cindy lauper and a little like stevie nicks even, but the song im thinking of says something like i dont wanna be i dont wanna know or something like that, if i work it out ill post it!
Rhiannon
I got the song i was thinking of, it was Madonna, please dont say your sorry, this song sure sounds like a lot of others!
Rhiannon
I've also been pondering what the sampled song is. I definitely had the same 80's hunch and the one that comes to mind is...
depeche mode-enjoy the silence
Listen to it on youtube or something, let me know if you think that's where the sample originated from.
CJ
the 'night and day' part in the chorus totally sounds like it's lifted from a 90s dance song... the closest i can come is "Rhythm of the Night" by Corona - where she sings 'this is the rhythm of the night... my night" the last bit sounds kind of like where fergie sings 'night and day'. but I feel like that 'night and day' is taken right from something else....
avs
that's it! thanks avs and rolocolo!
it has something from Rhythm of the Night by Corona AND Tell It To My Heart by Taylor Dayne!
jaay
I thought I was going nuts. I thought I was the only one who was thinking there was a 80's or 90's song in there somehwere, Everyone's suggestions were great but there's still something missing. the hook I keep hearing in my head but can't place is where Fergie sings "I want you so bad it's my only wish", especially as that melody fades out towards the end. Anyone else hearing that?
Fizz
THANK YOU CJ!!!!
That was driving me insane! It is definitely Depeche Mode - Enjoy the Silence (just that small two beat part behind Fergie singing).
knightryder
Okay, I swear the part that goes "I can't go on much Further than this, I want you so bad it's my only wish..." was a quote from an eighties song. but maybe not?? PLEASE help. i've been racking my brain
Iry
Im so glad its not only me looking for this sample! it driving me mad!! gonna listern to madonna's please dont say your sorry and depeche mode see if thats it x
lea
so its not madonna "borderline", or depeche mode "enjoy the silence", or cindi lauper "time after time", or corona "rhythm of the night"...fergies part has the same melody as taylor dayne "tell it to me". but the lyrics are way different. i swear she lifted the lyrics, especially the part the goes "i'll be lookin out, night n' day". It's driving me crazy!!
mattimus_prime
Fergie's very first "Ooh Ooh" with a sort of fading echo defnitely sounds like an earlier song. The up down quality of her mid to high range part, the elongated "I" in "I want you so bad", & the melody of her back up vocals "ooh ooh" during her part ... all sound like they belong in a late 80's but mainly early 90's electronic/dance/rap act like Snap (Rhythm is Dancer, the color of love, etc), Dee-Lite (Power of Love, etc), Real Mccoy (Another Night another dream, etc), Black Box, Shawn Christopher and also like the 90s genre called "old skool". Fergie's part has a nostalgic sound that is very similar to these older dance tunes but I don't think they necessarily ripped off any one song. They ripped off an entire style. And yet I have to admit that her part sounds like one particular song that I cant place.
JP
I'm thinking something like Sophie Ellis Bextor. Anyone with me on this?
Fizz
i think it really sounds like a prince song, one of his good ones from the eighties... gonna do more research but i have a good hunch on this : ) its driving me bonkers too!
Kat
Everyone has been itching at this and now its been itching me too since I read a YouTube comment on it! The lyrics are very hard to place a finger on. But for those who answered Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time" in the song is ABSOLUTELY CORRECT! This website is an absolute savior...wWw.wHoSaMpLeD.cOm (sorry for the caps & lower case). It didn't seem right at first cus it wasn't adding up. But the 4 part tune in the beginning of the song and all throughout "Meet Me Halfway" matches that of Cyndi Lauper's track. Now (I'm not done), listening to the the chorus/hook melody during Fergie's portion of the song (the "oh oh oh ohhhh...i can't go any further than this. oh oh oh ohhhh....i want you so badly it's my only wish" background melody) and towards the ending fade out of the song matches up EXACTLY to the melody that comes up after every chorus portion of "Time After Time." It may be off tune slightly but it's EXACT. Listen to it carefully yourself. That is my only explanation as to why it sounds so sampled off of a rather RETRO song. Believe me when I say that I do my research to get to the bottom of music nearly twice to 3x my age (I'm only 24 years old). I LOVE CLASSICS!!!!
Marcos
This song sounds like the 2005 song 'Röyksopp - What Else Is There?', in a faster tempo.
Monica
thank you i spent over 4 months trying to see what it reminds me of now i know but i am singing this song with my band because its an amazing song!
Chelsea
is it not a song called 'waiting for tonight' or something like that, don't have a clue who it's by though!
vikee
THANKS THANKS THANKS! Spent so long trying to work out the bit I recognised and it was "Tell it to my heart" for sure. Would be interesting to know whether they believed they made that bit up and therefore its one of life's cooincidences; or being more cynical that they just pinched it!! Love it either way though. Gotta love forums. :)
Rob
Interestingly enough if you type Taylor Dane Tell it to my heart in YouTube Kids Incorporated is one of the first hits that comes up...
Tai
except "time after time", i've never heard or listened to any songs mentioned in this thread before (to the best of my knowledge). frankly, they gave me such an impression of unfamiliarity, i couldn't have seen them before. so i'm thinking i have to keep looking, possibly in vain, for the song "meet me halfway" sampled from.
"depeche mode" and "tell it to my heart" really are similar to meet me halfway. i'm half convinced that it's purely coincidental though.
hd
i think u are all wrong about the 80s and 90s similar songs-it is like a song that was out a year or two ago and it featured a dancefloor in the video and im sure the lyrics said meet me on the dancefloor see you on the dancefloor baby or something similar-just cant remember bugging the hell out of me!!!!!!!
rich
HEY~!!!!!!! also listen to:
NOVA SPACE-time after time
Yes I know cindy lauper did time after time but that hook wasn't in it!!!!!!!!!!!!
OH MAN YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS
katt is awesome
It's been on the tip of my tongue for weeks and weeks: Deep Dish - Flashdance!
Sdha
just think it's supposed to have a retro vibe.
It sounds like a lot of songs.
It drove me and my husband bonkers! Like all of you, I too did an internet search. I do still wonder if it's based on something particular.
In the song credits, there is nothing! They'll credit other artists where they've sampled hooks/lyrics. Strange!!
Meechiemeech
The guitar is a sample from 'Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Maps' you can hear it if you listen close.
Ashman
This is driving me nuts, too! I kept humming it to myself until I came up with the note progression being the same as Time After Time, but I knew that wasn't the answer I needed since I could swear this is a sample!! I started reading here and thought BINGO! when I read Depeche Mode, but then I listened to that and it's not a match, either. Aaaarrgghh!!
Chel
It's the part where she says "Today" that definitely sounds like an old Madonna song. Can't figure out which one though!
Pauline
What I meant was it's where she says "Night and day" that sounds like an older song where they say "today". I thought it was Madonna, but I've looked through a lot of Madonna songs and can't fiind what I'm thinking of.
Pauline
ok...stop sayin it sounds like TIME AFTER TIME and TELL IT TO MY HEART. it doesn't at all...im sorry that im being rude, but i have been searching for a couple days now and i still havent found but one song that matches one piece i here...but not completely. and that is corona's - the rhythm of the night. now i keep thinkin that the other piece we are concerned about is where she saysooohhhooohhhh i cant go any further than this...all that...i have heard it...maybe with different words although i remember it with the same...everyone is wrong about naming off new bands...NO. your just wasting our time. dont tell me we think its an 80's song and all you can come up with is some dumb coldplay song, or the killers, REALLY. just stop...your just makin it more frustrating when you suggest the wrong songs. so far, i have researched everyone's suggestions along with my own..and i have found nothing yet that match. but i will keep lookin and will keep in touch with all of you and research any new suggestions. you know what would be easy....asking BEP themselves....hmmm....you think we can find someone to be able to ask...ooo...maybe tmz....hmmmm

Hi guys
Daniel from S.A, I have had the New Order connection from the first time I heard this track. Have a listen to Bizarre Love Triangle, I'm still going through all my New Order CD's but this ones pretty close!
Daniel
WHEN YOU WERE YOUNG by The Killers, try to listen at it, might rings a bell.
Andre
yup, The Killers, that's the first one that came to mind
Anitabela
Is it possible that it does not remind us of a song per se ? But maybe a song from a movie ? An older movie ? A song that maybe has no video, that is not so much on tv ? Especially the "oooo, oooo" , part ?

It sounds VERRRRY SIMILAR to Freeform Five's "Strangest Things" - particularly the Grand National Remix. Particularly the rhythm, female vocal part, short guitar riff AND syncopations... I was trying to nail this for awhile now. Initially, I thought it was a cover of this song (though I hadn't heard it for years), but to me, it's the closest match, stylewise (new age electronica) and just in terms of that glamorous / seductive 'dance movie' kind of vibe (tends to have a 'question' and 'answer' element to it, in terms of the musical phrasing).
Listen to a sample on this page and tell me WHO AGREES??? :
http://louisdaahu.isuisse.com/strangest-things-freeform-five.html
Diana
It also has the feel of Madonna's " Till Death Do Us Part" from her Like A Prayer album. Fergie herself said that she meant for the song to be a homage to 1980s Madonna, having seen her in concert at the age of 10.
Diana
Naked Eyes - "Promises Promises" Music...kinda...im just thinking about the hook vibe...not exact, but i was close
N8theSK&
for me , it s a mix of two songs . when fergie sings, that sounds like the melodic line of "tell it to my heart "(taylor dane) which was a hit in 1987. the " ho ho ho" choirs sounds exactly like the guitar introduction of "time after time" ( cindy lauper). the BEP are very clever and it s not the first time they copy others people s songs. their two previous hits of their last album were copies of other people s songs as well !
you have to forget the arrangments and just listen to the melodies to find out the songs !
ludochem
The only part that i can figure out is the snap sounds in the backround of the chorus when fergies singing sounds like the same snap from the very begining of "let the music play" however i will also keep trying good luck everyone.
MIKEREN
Take it from a 43 year old.. It's Madonna's borderline. When she sings "Night and dayuhayyy.." it's exactly how Madonna sung it in borderline.
She even mentions borderline in the words.
oldguy
Fergie's vocalization sounds eerily similar to Italian dance diva Moony's in song like "Dove" and DB Boulevard's "Point of View".
Nuggins
IIO maybe ?

When I first heard this, I also thought it was a remake of a song. I searched my old stacks of wax and everything on line. I don't think it was an exact copy like Rihanna's use of Soft Cell's 'Tainted love' for SOS. (even though Soft Cell did a remake themselves of a 1964 version). I think it has many parts and that's why it drives me crazy, because it uses some from Cindi Lauper, Madonna, and most closely (to me) is "Rhythm of the Night" by Corona. I also hear stuff from 'He's a dream' by Shandi. So I think they took stuff from all over the charts to make this song. In the end, I love it!
Stuck_n_80s
Yeah they definitely sample Enjoy The Silence by Depeche Mode.
Depeche_Mode_Fan
Yeah...I agree with what many of you said...The song is VERY 80's Madonna...The yearing and emotion in her pretty voice is very Madonna and the gentle synths are lifted directly from "Holiday".
marlonbrando
I agree with you all on the aspect that it sounds like
a song from the 80's I personally think it sounds like songs from the girls group expose ( point of no return, let me be the one and seasons change) that's just my opinion
