The original version of Bilal's "The Dollar" appears on Airtight's Revenge as a slightly scatterbrained affair. It's littered with oddly timed percussion, low-lying guitars and keys (or is that an organ?), strings, and bluesy horns. It all makes for one of the album's more experimental cuts. As such, I thought it was pretty interesting that Black Milk chose to remix "The Dollar." But the Detroit producer makes it his own. He throws down a steady groove, layers in keys and horns, and keeps your head nodding right along with the beat. With a less frenetic production behind him, Bilal and his vocals become the focal point here, allowing you to listen to his tale of homelessness with ease.
