Big Shug: "We Miss You" (Guru Tribute) (Prod. DJ Premier)
Had he not tragically passed away in April 2010, Guru would be turning 50 years old this Sunday, July 17. And to commemorate his deceased friend's birthday, Big Shug has teamed up with Guru's partner in Gang Starr, DJ Premier, to record this new track, "We Miss You." As its title implies, the track is dedicated to the fallen rapper and how he helped shape the life and career of Big Shug. It's a moving and altogether well-conceived tribute to one of hip-hop's greatest voices. Sigh. "We Miss You," indeed. Don't be too surprised if you end up going through the Gang Starr catalog after listening to this.
