“Before The Bridge” (Live On KCRW) (Video)

Baltimore-based synthpop outfit Future Islands recently stopped by KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic to perform a session, which you can hear in full via this link. The performance was also captured on camera, and KCRW is offering up this clip of On the Water cut “Before the Bridge” below. Samuel Herring’s unusual vocals sit wonderfully with the lightweight pop feel of the song here, with his trick of half-talking and half-singing helping to guide the track through some unusual terrain that feels unique to Future Islands. Sure, you can hear the influence of bands like Sparks and Magnetic Fields, but it always feels like Future Islands are following a singular path to get to where they’re going. [via AHIAS]
