Beck and friends (which include Giovanni Ribisi and Nigel Godrich) have released the second single from Beck's record club, and it's the Velvet Underground's Burroughs-esque tale of scoring dope in NYC in the '60s. Instead of the pummeling, trainline percussion of the original, Beck and co. have gone with a more loose-limbed take with a lot of strings. Coupled with the cover of "Sunday Morning," this record club idea isn't turning out so bad. I just wonder what happens when they get to "Black Angel's Death Song" on Velvet Underground and Nico.
