Covering "Venus in Furs" from Velvet Underground & Nico provides a unique challenge: do you focus on getting the lyrics right over a simple musical construct, or do you try to replicate the bruising noise of the original? Beck and his record club try to do the latter to mixed success; they try to recreate the grind of John Cale's viola via acoustic guitar and sitar, and neither instrument has enough muscle to do it. Although the Asian vibe is a welcome diversion.
